Why 8BB pushes look so wide
At 8 big blinds the blinds in the middle are large relative to your stack, so every uncontested push wins a meaningful pot. When you are called you are usually not crushed: most calling ranges are made of hands that are only modest favourites. Fold equity plus reasonable equity when called is what makes hands like 22 or A4o profitable from the first seat.
Percentages are measured by combinations (out of 1,326 starting hands), which is why "~27%" covers more hand classes than you might expect: pairs have 6 combinations, suited hands 4 and offsuit hands 12.
